Date: Friday May 15, 2020 What is our theme? Ants on a long (let’s make a snack) What is the lesson (overall purpose)? To learn about ants and make a healthy snack MA Guidelines/Standards: APL4: The child will demonstrate creativity in thinking and use of materials. APL8: The child will be able to retain and recall information. Pre-K-LS1-1 (MA). Compare, using descriptions and drawings, the external body parts of animals (including humans) and plants and explain functions of some of the observable body parts. Date: Thursday May 14, 2020 What is our theme? Rock bug friends What is the lesson (overall purpose)? To learn about different bugs. How they live, what they eat, whaT do they do to get food etc. MA Guidelines/Standards: APL4: The child will demonstrate creativity in thinking and use of materials. APL8: The child will be able to retain and recall information. K-ESS2-2. Construct an argument supported by evidence for how plants and animals (including humans) can change the environment. To learn to be respectful insects “living things” MA Guidelines/Standards: APL4: The child will demonstrate creativity in thinking and use of materials. APL8: The child will be able to retain and recall information. PK-LS2-2 (MA). Using evidence from the local environment to explain how familiar plants and animals meet their needs where they live. Then, pick each stick at a time to put glue on the stick and pick it back down in it’s spot. Activity Wrap Up: What are some facts you learned about the stick bugs after seeing the video? Activity (Procedure): The place to do this activity is outside. If it’s too cold or raining outside, you can still do it inside. you can lay down tons of news papers, or if you have a plastic tablecloth or even an old shower curtain. Lay the paper down. In the cups pour some of the bubble solution, add some paint just enough to give it color, then mix the paint and the bubble solution. Then have them dip the wands in the cups and have them blow onto the paper. Activity Wrap Up: What happened after blowing through the wand? What happened with the paint? What shapes did you make? How many bubbles do you think you made? How do I know what my child is learning? (Assessment) Is your able to blow through the bubble wand? How can you extend this activity? Activity (Procedure): Paint one hand a color, then have them put their hand flat onto the paper. Do the same thing with the other hand. After, they can rub their hands together to mix the paint and see what color they mixed. You can do that with all the colors. Activity Wrap Up: Ask your child, if we mix other colors like……, what color do you think we’ll get or will we even get a color? and what did the paint feel like while they were rubbing their hands together?
