What is our theme? Ocean in a Bottle!
What is the lesson (overall purpose)?
To become familiar with the ocean and how important it is for all the creatures that live in it.

PW36.Toddler controls small muscles in hand.
CD60.Toddler observes and identifies living things and their basic needs.
CD66. Toddler explores with sensory art materials and uses them to create visual effects.
Learning Outcomes:
I would like the children to become aware of different kinds of creatures that live in the ocean and how important it is to our planet.

Materials:
A large plastic bottle-water
blue food coloring-baby Oil
Sand-shells-super-glue.
Activity (Procedure):
Children will need some help from parents. Fill half of the bottle with water and food coloring. Swirl and mix, Once
the water has settled down,add the baby oil slowly. Add the sand and shells and mix together. Place glue to the inside of the lid and screw on tightly. Leave the bottle to sit for a few hours before tilting it up and down.
Activity (Wrap Up):
Can the children identify some of the creatures that are in the Ocean and in what way is it important to our planet?
How do I know what my child is learning(Assessment)
Experiment with different material and discover the different ways they can produce a variety of effects?
How can you extend this activity? (Modifications)
If you have no big plastic bottle,you can use a small one. If there is no baby oil you can just use the water. If there is no food coloring blue paint can be used.
Helpful Hints: (Pitfalls & Solutions)
The water could leak from the lid, adding strong tape to the top of the lid will secure it more.
