To teach the importance of washing hands with soap and water.

Songs, Books & Videos (Motivational Techniques)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L89nN03pBzI song

Materials:
Bowl with Water and pepper in it
Wash hand with Soap and water at sink

Activity (Procedure):
Have a bowl with water and pepper in it. Then have the child stick their finger in the bowl, when they pull their finger out is there pepper on it. Then have the child wash their hands with soap and water. Have them stick their fingers into the bowl again and watch what happens.

Activity Wrap Up:
Explain the importance of washing hands and have a routine for washing hands.

How do I know what my child is learning(Assessment)
The child learned that soap can help with not spreading germs and how to wash their hands using the steps.

How can you extend this activity? (Modifications)
Another way you can show it's important to wash hands because germs can move to different things, is mix lotion and glitter and have them rub it on their hands and touch toys or give high-five to someone that didn't put the lotion on.

Helpful Hints: (Pitfalls & Solutions)
I didn't see any pitfalls for me but the child could spill the bowl of water or put too much pepper or play in the sink while washing hands. The Solution is to monitor during the experiment.
