Materials:
1 cup of half and half-2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp sugar-Ice-¼ cup of salt
Ziploc bags-1 small- 1 large

Activity (Procedure):
Pour 1 cup of half and half into the small ziploc bag,add 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon of sugar.
Seal the bag tightly and flatten out. In a large ziploc bag fill halfway with ice adding a ¼ cup of salt. Add the small
with ingredients into the large bag and add more ice on top, seal the large bag. Use gloves and shake(gloves are needed) as the salt makes the ice extra cold! Shake for six minutes, shake and shake! Remove the small bag and rinse with cold water  removing any salt.
Open the small bag, add to a  bowl and mix to soften.
Scoop up and enjoy your homemade ice cream!

Activity Wrap Up:
Talk about what you did and what happened when all the ingredients were combined?

How do I know what my child is learning(Assessment)
Experiment with different materials and ingredients to produce a particular outcome!

How can you extend this activity? (Modifications)
If you have no half and half, whole milk can be used instead. If you have no vanilla extract you can use maple syrup or lemon juice.

Helpful Hints: (Pitfalls & Solutions)
If ice cream turns out too thick, mix well with a wooden spoon. Bags can be doubled to ensure no leakage.
