What is the lesson (overall purpose)?
To learn about different ways to travel.
MA Guidelines/Standards:
CD77. The older toddler engages in activities that build a basic understanding of words for location and direction.
CD47. The younger toddler expects certain things to happen as a result of his actions.
Learning Outcomes:
To be creative in making a hot air balloon and learn how it can take you to different places whether it's in the sky, water, or land.

Materials:
Paper plate
Paper
Popsicle sticks
paint/ crayons/ markers
glue
Activity (Procedure):
Paint or color paper plate
Glue plate to paper
Glue popsicle stick/ string to paper (between plate and square is the basket of hot air balloon)
Cut out square (parent) and glue to paper
Activity Wrap Up:
Can talk about other things that travel in the sky. Share stories of riding an airplane.
How do I know what my child is learning(Assessment)
Use terms and gestures to reinforce directional terms, such as pointing up, while saying, “The ball went up in the air.”
How can you extend this activity? (Modifications)
If you do not have paper plates use paper in a circle. I have seen using a balloon and tying string to a square.
Helpful Hints: (Pitfalls & Solutions)
The pitfall I had was gluing string, the solution was I used popsicle sticks.
