Our Lesson for the week! Transportation.

What is our theme? Bicycle

What is the lesson (overall purpose)?
To have the child become familiar with Bicycles and how their movement can transport them to their destination.

MA Guidelines/Standards:
CD69. Toddler creatively explores and experiments using a variety of sensory materials and art mediums.
PW50. Toddler engages in a variety of physical activities.
CD66. Toddler explores sensory art materials and uses them for visual effects.

Learning Outcomes:

Materials:
Small Bike-Large plastic Table Cloth-Tape
Colored Paint-Large Sponges-4 Long Trays

Activity (Procedure):
This is an outdoor activity, parents may need to help set it up? Place a large plastic table cloth on the flat part of the ground and turn it over to the white side. Tape the corners with strong tape to hold the tablecloth in place. Pour the different paint into the trays. With the sponge apply the paint to the wheels of the child's small bike. Direct the child to start riding the bike along and around the table cloth, making different swirls and lines.

Activity Wrap Up:
Can the child Identify what they feel like and if they are big or small? Have them talk about what they saw?

How do I know what my child is learning(Assessment)
Experiment with different materials and different bicycles to produce a variety of effects.

How can you extend this activity? (Modifications)
If you are having a hard time because the plastic tablecloth keeps moving, you can tape it to the ground and this will stop the movement while riding the bicycle.

Helpful Hints: (Pitfalls & Solutions)
If you can't get outside, place large paper on a tiled floor and use small toys with wheels to make swirls and lines.
