Go on a nature walk around your yard, playground/park, or beach. Talk about what you see, hear, smell, and feel. Have the children find a special rock to take home, when home we are going to wash the rocks you will need a container with water, soap, and a paintbrush, or old toothbrush, or sponge. Have the children look at the rock and tell you about it like soft, bumpy, dirty, and so on (you can help them if they don’t have the language.) then have the children wash the rock, when done you can paint it or make a rock garden outside.
What are you hoping the children get from this project?
I am hoping they can see and feel a difference between a dirty and clean rock with what’s going on in the world today they can learn the important of washing their hands. And I want them to getting some energy/exercise and see how beautiful nature can be.
How can you expand this lesson?
Under procedure, I did suggest after washing the rock they can make a rock garden or paint the rocks. We could also look for rocks that look the same or look for certain shape like heart shape, or square, and so on.
