Our Lesson for the week!  Animals.

What is our theme? Dogs

What is the lesson (overall purpose)?
To become familiar with dogs and learn about their needs for survival. Thinking how they  associate with humans and what roles they play?

MA Guidelines/Standards:
PW36.Toddler Controls small muscles in hand.
CD63.Toddler uses simple tools to continue exploration.
CD64.Toddler identifies living things and their basic needs
CD66. Toddler explores sensory art materials and uses visual effects..

Learning Outcomes:
I would like the children to learn that there are lots of different dogs, and how they can be the same but also different.

Songs, Books & Videos (Motivational Techniques)

Materials:
Two plastic containers
Mud-Bubble Bath
Sponge-toothbrush
Dog Figures

Activity (Procedure)
Fill one bin with mud and the other one with warm soapy water. Have the child put the dog figures in the mud and let the child explore and play with the figures. When they are ready they can decide to wash the figures in the other bin. They can scrub with the toothbrush and clean with a sponge, this can be repeated as often as the child wants to!

Activity Wrap Up:
Can the child identify dogs and where they eat?

How do I know what my child is learning(Assessment)
With your family take a walk, look for dogs on your walk.
Look and count how many you see, were they the same or were they different?

How can you extend this activity? (Modifications)
If you have no dog figures, you can use a soft toy dog.
If you can't get outside you can look at book pictures.

Helpful Hints: (Pitfalls & Solutions)
Wet the mud with some water, for mud to stick.
Use a separate toothbrush for teeth brushing.
