The children will be making the letters X Y Z out of sticks they collected from outside
Purpose: Review the letters X Y Z
Theme: Letter of the week
Learning standard:
F.PK.3. Demonstrate beginning understanding of phonics and word analysis skills.
Learning outcomes: I would like the children to create the letters with sticks and then be able to
Write those letters using a pencil, crayon or marker
Motivational techniques: Look at the X, Y and Z below. What do you notice about their shape? What types of sticks will you use to make these letters?
Procedure: Head outside in your yard, or for a walk. You can collect all types of sticks to try and make these three letters. Hint: You may have to break some in order to get the shape the way you'd like it!
Materials: Sticks , pencil, crayons
Wrap up: The children made the letters X Y Z with sticks ,now see if they can make the letters
On paper with a crayon, pencil or marker
Assessment: The children learned how to make the letters X, Y, Z
Modifications: Make the letters out of other materials like caps, rocks, leaves etc.
Hint: If you can’t collect sticks from outside find other outdoor materials you can use
