Patterns: Creating your own patterns
-How do I teach patterns? Patterns can be seen, heard and be made (felt).
Here are some examples on how to make a patterns:
ABAB (red, blue, red, blue)
ABC (car, truck, plane, car, truck, plane)
AABB (crayon, crayon, pencil, pencil, crayon, crayon, pencil, pencil)
AAB (Cheerio, Cheerio, raisin, Cheerio, Cheerio, raisin)
ABB (stomp, clap, clap, stomp, clap clap)
-What kind of pattern can you make?
*using snack food: (ie. pretzel, raisin, cracker, etc.)
*Notice patterns that you see everyday (ie. can you find the pattern on the bathroom tile? pattern on the fence? pattern on picture frames?, etc.)
*Draw simple patterns using crayons
*Make patterns by sliding fruit/other food onto skewers
*Using coins (penny, dime, quarter, penny, dime, quarter)
*Create patterns with objects that you find in nature.
*Making patterns with everyday household objects (ie. Pen, pencil, pen, pencil...fork/knife/spoon, tall/short/tall/short, etc.)
