Book: Who Sank The Boat (Written By: Pamela Allen)
*Who do you think will sink the boat?

Activity: Sink vs. Float
Gather Materials:

-Gather several items that you would like to experiment with.
-Container (preferably a see thru container)
-Water

Making Predictions:
*Create a chart: Have 2 columns (sink/float)
-Write down your predictions:
What do you think will happen?
Why do you think that?

Experiment:
*1 at a time, place your objects into the water
-Do they sink or float?
-Record the results: Were you correct?

Other ideas to Try:

-Measuring water depth: How can you measure to see how deep the water is?
-How many cups of water to fill your container?
-How many cups of water does it take to fill a gallon jug? quart? pint? half gallon?
-How many tablespoons of water does it take to fill 1 cup?
-Do your objects float in warm water? cold water?
-Do your objects float in salt water? oil? soapy water?
-Do you prefer to swim in fresh water or salt water? why or why not?
-Do you prefer to take a bath in cold water or warm water? why?
-Do crayons float? Did you try all the colors? Why do some colors sink?
-Timer: How long does it take for a cotton ball to sink? stick? popcorn? cereal in milk?
