Youtube book read aloud, “The Busy Tree” by Jennifer Ward (Video posted below)
Procedures: (Step by Step how to do the activity)
- Begin activity by asking your child what they already know about animals that live in trees. “Who lives in a tree?” “What kind of animals have you seen in trees before?”
- Watch youtube book read aloud, “The Busy Tree” by Jennifer Ward
- Afterwards, ask your child again, “What kind of animals are found in a tree?” Have a short discussion.
- Show your child the materials they will be using to create their tree art. Tell them they are in charge of putting the animals back in their homes.
- Allow child to color in the provided tree outline: draw in the leaves, fill in the trunk with color, add branches, etc)
- Next ask your child to draw their own version of their choice tree animals on a seperate paper. Review animal options.
- Help your child cut out their animals (or if you’d like allow them to practice cutting with safe scissors. Review scissor safety.).
- Remind your child it is their job to put animals back in their home. Ask your child to glue the animals onto the tree paper. “Where will your animal live on the tree?”
- Ask your child to name the animals they’ve placed on their tree. Praise them for their hard work and reflection!
