Our Lessons For the Week!

Date: Friday May 15, 2020

What is our theme? Ants on a long (let’s make a snack)

What is the lesson (overall purpose)?  
To learn about ants and make a healthy snack 

MA Guidelines/Standards:
APL4: The child will demonstrate creativity in thinking and use of materials.
APL8: The child will be able to retain and recall information.
Pre-K-LS1-1 (MA). Compare, using descriptions and drawings, the external body parts of animals (including humans) and plants and explain functions of some of the observable body parts. 
PreK-LS1-2 (MA)
Explain that most animals have five senses they use to gather information about the world around them

Learning Outcomes:
work on their fine motor skills


Songs, Books & Videos (Motivational Techniques)
Video: facts about ants https://youtu.be/ploW2KEUmLw 

Materials
Sunbutter or Wowbutter (you can use peanut butter 
celery
raisins
spoon 
plate
knife

Activity (Procedure):
  1.  cut your celery 4” to 5” long
  2. take your spoon, scoop out some sunbutter and spread the sunbutter in the middle of the celery.
  3. Then, place the raisins in a line on the sunbutter to make them look like little ants.
  4. Lastly, pick up your ant on a long eat and enjoy!

Activity Wrap Up:
Ask your child, what do ants like to eat? Do ants have ears? etc. 

How do I know what my child is learning? (Assessment)
Is your child able to cut the celery, scoop the peanut butter and spread the peanut butter on the celery? 

How can you extend this activity? (Modifications)
You can give them blueberries or mini chocolates. 

Helpful Hints: (Pitfalls & Solutions)
If your child does not like sunbutter they can use cream cheese
