What is our theme? The Very Hungry caterpillar
MA Guidelines/Standards:
APL4: The child will demonstrate creativity in thinking and use of materials.
APL8: The child will be able to retain and recall information.
Pre-K-LS1-1 (MA). Compare, using descriptions and drawings, the external body parts of animals (including humans) and plants and explain functions of some of the observable body parts.

Materials:
Paper
2 toilet paper rolls
red and green paint
2 paper plate or a plate from home
markers
Activity (Procedure):
Activity Wrap Up:
Ask you child, do caterpillars really eat those kinds of foods? What do caterpillars eat? What happens to caterpillars?
How do I know what my child is learning? (Assessment)
Ask questions about the book? and are they able to remember anything that happened in the book.

How can you extend this activity? (Modifications)
They can draw a scene for their caterpillar
Helpful Hints: (Pitfalls & Solutions)
If you don’t have paint, have them trace around the toilet paper roll with the markers

Materials:
Paper
2 toilet paper rolls
red and green paint
2 paper plate or a plate from home
markers
Activity (Procedure):
- pour the red paint in one of the plates and green in the other just enough to cover the bottom of the plates.
- standing up, place one of the toilet paper rolls in the red paint and the other toilet paper roll in the green paint.
- have your child stamp on the paper with the toilet paper roll in a line or zig zag lines
- have you child draw draw the different food the caterpillar ate underneath each circle with the makers
