What is the lesson (overall purpose)?
Is to have fun while exploring experiments with science and see how things can change.

MA Guidelines/Standards:
LC36. The older toddler communicates clearly enough to be understood by familiar and unfamiliar listeners.

Learning Outcomes:
Is the child using their words to communicate what happened (effect) or to tell the listener what they like about the experiment.

Songs, Books & Videos (Motivational Techniques)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUae_nyzyRs book ‘Optical Physic for Baby’
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDaOw0Rgnyg song

Materials:
Marker
Paper towel
Cup with water

Activity (Procedure):
Color the end of the paper towel with markers( try to put lots of color at the end)
Then dip it into the water and watch the color expand the rest of the paper towel.

Activity Wrap Up:
Ask questions or have the child tell you what happened and what they like about the experiment.

How do I know what my child is learning(Assessment)
Provide activities and opportunities for children to experience cause and effect.

How can you extend this activity? (Modifications)
You will need three cups, fill the left and right with water and leave the middle empty. Put food coloring in the left and right, use primary colors. Fold (long way) paper towel and put one end into the left and other into the middle and the same for the right. See them mix ( I like yellow and blue, see the change).

Helpful Hints: (Pitfalls & Solutions)
My pitfall was putting it in the water too fast and too deep. You want to put it in slowly and just get the tips of the paper towel water. The pitfall is the marker came through on my table cloth, so make sure you have something under the paper towel, when the child colors with markers.
